Natural filler treatment
These days, we have safe and effective ways to turn back the clock a bit without fundamentally altering someone’s appearance. The type of treatment that is suitable for you depends on the underlying cause of the issue.
How do we use fillers?
Does the wrinkle become more pronounced when you tilt your head down? If so, there is a high chance that the wrinkle is a result of the loss of volume and firmness in the skin and underlying layers. This volume can be effectively restored with fillers such as hyaluronic acid (a naturally occurring substance in the skin that provides volume and hydration) and bio-stimulating fillers like Radiesse, which stimulate collagen production for added skin firmness. Advanced injection techniques can lift deep wrinkles and skin folds without the need for surgery.

What is a liquid facelift?
A liquid facelift is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure in which sagging skin is lifted using fillers and bio-stimulating injectables. By restoring volume loss and improving the skin quality at the key support points of the face, a natural lifting effect is achieved.

How does a filler treatment work?
During an initial consultation, we will discuss your desires and the treatment options available. Through a few questions about your medical history, we determine whether you are eligible for a filler treatment.
Through a comprehensive analysis of your skin, we identify which areas are suitable for filler treatment and which products may be suitable for your skin type.
At Dr. Brandt, our focus is on achieving a natural and subtle result, which is why we often advise against treating too much at once. This allows for the option of coming back later for a ‘touch-up.’
During the first consultation, our goal is to provide you with complete information about the treatment and the expected results. It’s important that your expectations align with the anticipated outcomes. We will always offer honest advice to collaboratively create a well-informed treatment plan.

A filler treatment is simple and typically lasts only 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the number of areas being treated. About half an hour before the treatment, the assistant or the doctor will apply a numbing cream to the areas to be treated. Using a few strategic injections with a very thin needle, the doctor will add extra volume to the chosen areas until the desired effect is achieved. You will see immediate results.
To clearly document the outcome of the treatment, photos will be taken for your medical record.
After the treatment, you can resume your daily activities immediately. However, be aware that your skin may exhibit some slight swelling and redness, which gradually diminishes and typically disappears within a few hours. The doctor will provide you with post-treatment tips for proper aftercare.
In the days following the treatment, the effect may enhance due to the moisture-absorbing nature of the filler. This results in a healthy and voluminous effect that accentuates specific areas of your face. The longevity of the filler’s plumping effect depends on the region treated and the firmness of the gel used. On average, the filling effect of the filler can last between 12 to 18 months.
Hyaluronic acid is naturally broken down by the body into its own substances. After this process, you can repeat the treatment without any issues.
Frequently asked questions
A filler, as the name suggests, is a substance used to fill. It is a general term commonly used for temporary fillers applied in the face or body. The most frequently used fillers are made of Hyaluronic Acid, a naturally occurring building block of the skin. In addition to Hyaluronic Acid, collagen-stimulating fillers such as Radiesse or Sculptra are also utilized.
The result of a filler treatment depends on the type of filler used and the layer of the skin in which it is placed. For instance, a ‘firm filler’ in a deeper skin layer can provide a lifting effect on deeper folds, while a ‘soft filler’ in a superficial skin layer can soften a surface-level wrinkle. For an optimal result, a combination of different types of fillers in various skin layers is often applied.
For a filler treatment, usually, only local anesthesia is applied with an injection or a numbing cream. Depending on the type of treatment, the most effective option will be suggested for a comfortable experience. If you find it nerve-wracking or have a fear of needles, let us know, and we can work together to make the treatment as pain-free as possible.
Fillers like Hyaluronic Acid and Radiesse are naturally broken down by the body over time. On average, results are visible for about a year, with the effect gradually diminishing. If you prefer to maintain the results, you can consult with the doctor throughout the year to determine where a ‘touch-up’ may be needed. In some cases, with firmer fillers, results can last for several years.
Recovery after a filler treatment is generally mild. Localized mild swelling, redness, or discomfort may occur after treatment—this is entirely normal and usually resolves on its own within 24-72 hours. Occasionally, a small bruise may occur during the injection, but it typically fades within a few days. Significant bruising is rare. Generally, it is barely noticeable immediately after the treatment. Within a few days, the filler settles into the skin and may attract some extra water, enhancing the effect as time passes. Most people experience the ‘wow-effect’ after 2-4 weeks.
A filler treatment has a favorable risk profile compared to surgical procedures. Like any medical treatment, there are risks to consider. The most common issues are not severe and can be easily corrected. If a filler ends up in the wrong layer of the skin, a small bump or swelling may occur. This is often easily corrected with a solvent, especially with soluble hyaluronic acid fillers. The risk of bumps from fillers is very small when choosing an experienced cosmetic doctor KNMG.
In extremely rare cases, there may be an allergic reaction or infection (less than 0.1%). Also, in very exceptional cases, a filler may impede blood vessel flow. In such instances, the doctor can usually restore circulation by injecting a solvent guided by ultrasound. Dr. Brandt has extensive knowledge of treating complications and has contributed as an author to the Dutch field standard for non-biodegradable fillers. If you have questions, feel free to ask!
The selection of the best cosmetic clinic in Amsterdam goes beyond the appearance of the clinic or its website. It is crucial to choose the right doctor for your specific treatment. Consider the experience of the doctor with the treatment you desire. If you’re seeking a professional with the right expertise, it’s advisable to opt for a “cosmetic doctor KNMG.” These are cosmetic doctors who are demonstrably authorized and skilled in performing cosmetic procedures, including Botox and fillers, and are entitled to carry this official title. A successful procedure begins with a qualified doctor.
There are various types of fillers on the market that can restore volume loss and/or improve the skin. What are actually the best fillers? Here are some important factors to consider:
- Is the filler scientifically tested, and does the filler have a quality certification such as the “CE” mark? Well-known brands like Belotero, Juvederm, Restylane, Stylage, and Radiesse have undergone extensive testing, and we know what to expect from them. However, this is not the case for many fillers, especially the cheaper ones.
- Is the filler dissolvable? Temporary dissolvable fillers have an advantage in terms of safety and unwanted side effects. Fillers that do not have a solvent (such as Radiesse or Sculptra) can also yield beautiful results, provided they are well-placed. In this case, it is of extra importance that the doctor has a lot of experience in placing these fillers.
Choose a doctor with a lot of experience. Even the best fillers can turn out poorly if placed by inexperienced or unskilled hands. Ask for the doctor’s personally achieved results and inquire how frequently the doctor has performed this treatment. If you are looking for a doctor with extensive experience and knowledge in fillers, it is advisable to choose a “cosmetic doctor KNMG.”
