Liquid facelift

In a liquid facelift, the focus is not only on areas like the nasolabial folds or crow’s feet; rather, it involves treating the entire face as a unified whole. Wrinkles are softened, and youthful contours are restored, giving the appearance of a “lifted” skin. The result is akin to what you would achieve by gently pulling the skin from the cheeks towards the ears.

The Treatment

After a careful examination of your face, we will discuss which treatment suits you best. In the case where surgery is the only option for the desired result, this will be discussed. The doctor will provide you with honest advice on this matter. For the treatment, a combination of different products such as Botox, hyaluronic acid fillers, and fillers that stimulate collagen production can be chosen. By using strategic injections, volume in the face can be restored in the right places for a stunningly youthful result.

In a complete facelift (4mL fillers + botulinum toxin), the entire face is treated with a combination of various products and techniques. Wrinkles caused by muscle tension (frown lines, crow’s feet, forehead lines) are treated with Botox, and youthful facial contours are restored with collagen-stimulating fillers. Additionally, attention is given to the lips, marionette lines, and nasolabial folds. A complete liquid facelift typically takes an average of 30-60 minutes. The results are stunningly beautiful.

How does a filler treatment work?

During the initial consultation, we will discuss your preferences and treatment options. Based on a few questions about your medical background, we will determine if you are a suitable candidate for a filler treatment.

Through a comprehensive analysis of your skin, we will identify areas eligible for filler treatment and recommend products suitable for your skin type.

At Dokter Brandt, our focus is on achieving a natural and subtle result. That’s why we often advise against excessive treatment in one session. You can always return for a ‘touch-up’ later.

In the first consultation, our goal is to provide you with complete information about the treatment and the expected results. It is crucial that your expectations align with the anticipated outcomes. We will always offer honest advice to collaboratively create a well-informed treatment plan.

A filler treatment is straightforward and typically takes only 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the number of areas being treated. Approximately half an hour before the treatment, the assistant or the doctor will apply a numbing cream to the areas to be treated. Through a series of strategic injections with a very thin needle, the doctor will add extra volume to the chosen areas until the desired effect is achieved. You will see immediate results.

To clearly document the outcome of the treatment, photos will be taken for your medical record.

After the treatment, you can resume your daily activities immediately. Please be aware that your skin may show some slight swelling and redness, which gradually diminishes and is typically gone within a few hours. The doctor will provide you with post-treatment tips for proper aftercare.

In the days following the treatment, the effect may further enhance due to the filler’s moisture-absorbing nature. This achieves a healthy and voluminous effect that accentuates specific areas of your face. The filling effect of the filler varies depending on the region and the firmness of the gel used. On average, the filling effect of the filler can last 12-18 months.

Hyaluronic acid is naturally broken down by the body into its own substances. After this process, you can safely repeat the treatment as needed.

Frequently asked questions

A filler, as the name suggests, is a substance used to fill. It is a collective term commonly used for temporary fillers applied to the face or body. The most commonly used fillers are made of Hyaluronic Acid – a naturally occurring building block of the skin. In addition to Hyaluronic Acid, collagen-stimulating fillers like Radiesse or Sculptra are also used.

The result of a filler treatment depends on the type of filler used and the layer of the skin in which it is placed. For example, a ‘firm filler’ in a deeper skin layer will provide a lifting effect on deeper folds, while a ‘soft filler’ in a superficial skin layer will soften a surface wrinkle. For an optimal result, a combination of different types of fillers in different skin layers is often applied.

For a filler treatment, usually only local anesthesia is applied with a small injection or a numbing cream. Depending on the type of treatment, the most effective option will be suggested for a comfortable experience. If you find it very nerve-wracking or are afraid of needles, let us know, and we will work together to make the treatment as pain-free as possible.

Fillers such as Hyaluronic Acid and Radiesse are naturally broken down by the body over time. On average, results are visible for about a year, with the effect gradually decreasing. If you prefer to maintain the results, you can work with the doctor throughout the year to assess where a ‘touch-up’ is possible. In some cases, with firmer fillers, results can last for several years.

Recovery after a filler treatment is generally mild. After a treatment, there may be local mild swelling, redness, or discomfort – this is very normal and usually resolves on its own within 24-72 hours. During the injection, a small bruise may sometimes occur, which typically fades within a few days. Large bruises are rare. Generally, it’s barely noticeable immediately after a treatment that you’ve had one. Within a few days, the filler settles into the skin, and it may attract some extra water – the effect becomes even more beautiful over time. Most people experience the ‘wow-effect’ after 2-4 weeks.

A filler treatment has a favorable risk profile compared to surgical procedures. Like any medical treatment, there are risks to consider. The most common problems are not severe and are easily correctable. When a filler ends up in the wrong layer of the skin, a bump or swelling can occur. This is often easily corrected with a solvent, especially with soluble hyaluronic acid fillers. The risk of bumps from fillers is very low when you choose an experienced cosmetic doctor affiliated with the KNMG.

In very rare cases, there may be an allergic reaction or infection (less than 0.1%). Also, in extremely exceptional cases, a filler may impede blood vessel flow. In that case, the doctor can usually inject a solvent with precision using ultrasound to restore blood flow. Dr. Brandt has extensive knowledge of treating complications and has contributed as an author to the Dutch field standard for non-biodegradable fillers. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!
