As the lips play such a crucial role in our appearance, accentuating the lips with hyaluronic acid fillers is currently one of the most popular treatments worldwide. Through advanced injection techniques, we can subtly add extra volume and definition to the lips, achieving a beautifully natural result.

The treatment typically takes 10-20 minutes, allowing you to resume your daily activities immediately afterward.

With the use of local anesthesia, you will feel virtually nothing during the procedure. Together with your cosmetic doctor, the necessary volume to achieve the desired result will be determined. The doctors at Injectables Clinic specialize in lip volume and contour treatments, paying special attention to natural proportions and facial balance.

How does a filler treatment work?

During the initial consultation, we discuss your preferences and treatment options. Based on a few questions about your medical history, we determine whether you are eligible for a filler treatment.

Through a comprehensive analysis of your skin, we identify which areas are suitable for filler treatment and which products may be suitable for your skin type.

Our focus with Dr. Brandt is on achieving a natural and subtle result, which is why we often recommend not over-treating at once. You can always return for a touch-up later.

During the first consultation, we aim to provide you with complete information about the treatment and the expected results. It is essential that your expectations align with the anticipated outcomes. We will always offer honest advice to collaboratively create a well-informed treatment plan.

A filler treatment is straightforward and typically takes only 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the number of zones being treated. Approximately half an hour before the procedure, the assistant or the doctor will apply a numbing cream to the areas to be treated. Through a series of strategic injections using a very thin needle, the doctor will add extra volume to the chosen areas until the desired effect is achieved. You will see immediate results.

To document the outcome of the treatment for your medical record, photos will be taken.

After the treatment, you can resume your daily activities immediately. Please be aware that your skin may show some slight swelling and redness. This gradually diminishes and is typically gone within a few hours. The doctor will provide you with post-treatment tips.

In the days following the procedure, the effect may increase due to the moisture-absorbing nature of the filler. This achieves a healthy and voluminous effect, accentuating specific areas of your face. The filling effect of the filler depends on the region and the firmness of the gel used. On average, the filling effect of the filler can last for 12-18 months.

Hyaluronic acid is naturally broken down by the body into its own substances. After this, you can repeat the treatment without any issues.

Frequently asked questions

A filler is, as the name suggests, a filling substance. It is a collective term widely used for temporary fillers applied to the face or body. The most commonly used fillers are made of Hyaluronic Acid – a naturally occurring building block of the skin. In addition to Hyaluronic Acid, collagen-stimulating fillers like Radiesse or Sculptra are also used.

The result of a filler treatment depends on the type of filler used and the skin layer in which it is placed. For example, a ‘firm filler’ in a deeper skin layer will provide a lifting effect on deeper folds, while a ‘soft filler’ in a superficial skin layer will soften a superficial wrinkle. For an optimal result, a combination of different types of fillers in various skin layers is often used.

For a filler treatment, usually only local anesthesia is applied with a small injection or a numbing cream. Depending on the type of treatment, the most effective option for a comfortable experience will be suggested. If you find it very nerve-wracking or are afraid of needles, please let us know, and we’ll work together to make the treatment as pain-free as possible.

Fillers like Hyaluronic Acid and Radiesse are naturally broken down by the body over time. On average, results are visible for about a year, and the effect gradually diminishes. Do you like keeping track of the results? Throughout the year, you can work with the doctor to identify areas where a ‘touch-up’ might be beneficial. In some cases, with firmer fillers, results can remain visible for several years.

The recovery after a filler treatment is generally mild. After the procedure, there may be local mild swelling, redness, or discomfort – this is entirely normal and usually resolves on its own within 24-72 hours. Occasionally, a small bruise may occur during the injection, but it typically disappears within a few days. Significant bruising is rare. Generally, immediately after treatment, it’s hardly noticeable that you’ve had a procedure. Within a few days, the filler settles into the skin, and the filler may attract some extra water, enhancing the effect over time. Most people experience the ‘wow-effect’ after 2-4 weeks.

A treatment with fillers has a favorable risk profile compared to surgical procedures. Like any medical treatment, there are risks to consider. The most common issues are not severe and can be easily corrected. If a filler ends up in the wrong layer of the skin, a bump or swelling may occur. This is often easily corrected with a solvent, especially with soluble hyaluronic acid fillers. The likelihood of bumps due to fillers is very low when choosing an experienced cosmetic doctor with a KNMG certification.

In extremely rare cases, there may be an allergic reaction or infection (less than 0.1%). Also, in highly exceptional cases, a filler may impede the flow of a blood vessel. In such cases, the doctor can usually inject a solvent with precision using ultrasound to restore blood flow. Dr. Brandt has extensive knowledge of complications and contributed as an author to the Dutch field norm for non-biodegradable fillers. If you have questions, feel free to ask!
