SEFFILLER® is a regenerative treatment that uses your own fat tissue to naturally rejuvenate the skin. Microfat and nanofat: the difference

Within fat grafting techniques, a distinction is made between microfat and nanofat. Microfat contains intact fat cells and is primarily used to restore volume. It is ideal for treating hollow areas such as the cheeks, temples, or lips, and for softening facial contours. The results are immediately visible and long-lasting.

Nanofat, on the other hand, is processed into a much finer, liquid form. This leaves almost no fat cells intact, but creates a solution rich in stem cells and growth factors. Nanofat is injected superficially into the skin, where it improves overall skin quality. It does not add volume, but refines the skin texture, reduces fine lines, and results in firmer, smoother, and more radiant skin.

In short, microfat is mainly used for volume restoration, while nanofat focuses on skin rejuvenation. In many cases, both methods are combined: microfat for contour and structure, nanofat for healthy, youthful-looking skin.

Using the SEFFILLER technique, we use a small amount of your own fat for a natural anti-aging treatment. The fat is purified and partly re-injected into the face for subtle volume restoration, while the remaining stem cells are delivered into the skin through microneedling to visibly improve skin quality. Microneedling and RF microneedling stimulate collagen, elastin, and blood circulation, creating—together with the stem cells—the ideal environment for regeneration. Research has also shown that stem cells have better survival and integration when RF microneedling is applied beforehand. This synergy enhances the results, producing a natural, long-lasting outcome with smoother, firmer, and more youthful-looking skin.

What does a treatment look like?

Step 1: Harvesting the stem cells

In the superficial fat, a significant number of stem cells are present. We can easily extract a small amount of this superficial fat tissue using a syringe under local anesthesia. Typically, the abdomen, flanks, or legs are commonly chosen for this procedure. The amount we remove is approximately equivalent to a shot of espresso (±30 ml.), so it’s not comparable to a typical liposuction. The area where the fat is ‘harvested’ may feel slightly tender for a few days after the procedure.

Step 2: Filtering the stem cells

After harvesting the fat, the next step involves filtering the stem cells. This can be done in various ways depending on the desired effect. If we aim for both skin improvement and a volumizing effect in the face, we will reintroduce the fat cells and filter out the anesthetic solution. For treatments focused on restoring hair growth, we also filter out the fat cells using a centrifuge. This leaves behind a fluid rich in growth factors and stem cells.

Step 3: The re-implantation of the stem cells

Depending on the desired effect, the stem cells may or may not be re-implanted in combination with the fat cells. In a SEFFILLER treatment, we reintroduce the mix of stem cells and fat cells into the subcutaneous fat of the face using a small cannula. In a SEFFIHAIR treatment, we place the filtered stem cells (without fat cells) back into the scalp using a ‘multi-injector’ that allows us to administer multiple small injections simultaneously. The treatment is performed under local anesthesia using a numbing injection or cream.

Step 4: Recovery and results

In the first few days after the treatment, the skin needs some time to settle. Expect mild swelling, redness, and a slight tenderness. It’s possible to encounter a small blood vessel during the procedure, resulting in a bruise, especially in the area where the stem cells were harvested. Generally, the recovery is mild, and beautiful results are often visible quickly. Optimal results will become apparent once the stem cells have settled in, multiplied, and started replacing old damaged cells. This typically occurs within 3-6 months. Depending on your situation and the desired effect, the treatment may be performed in a course of 2 or 3 sessions for optimal results. The results can last for years.
